Mixing ambience, space jazz, DIY mixage, dub, dubstep and electroacoustic material I was able to maintain a holding pattern. In fact, the material came together in a happenstance manner. What is the mixage method? Prepare for the worst [in the studio] and take advantage of any pleasant surprises as they come along.

What is created in a mix has something to do with unspoken [poetic, inexplicable] swellings of sound that represent emotions, that represent doubts, predictions and more – so always personal and global simultaneously, always porous, things, sounds seeping in and through one another.

If you are me, you will have a reasonable bottle of wine or 2 beers of the higher reaches to lubricate those tighter edges to fray and to unravel those jealous, sometimes bitter edges between genres. You make amends, realignments, allies with musical forms, sounds and genres that were never meant to be mixed, pushed up against one another and so forth.

Sometimes I just bring a stack of stuff, picked somewhat at random from new acquisitions some old and some totally neglected and then I see what happens between me physiologically and the studio technically and the sound audiographically, how we have to learn to get along… And this creates a dialog that would never happen. It’s like talking to someone on a train whom you would never have spoken to in other situations but format, venue and circumstance force a situation that leads to pleasant surprises…
